PARENTS AS PARTNERS

“In today’s connected world, members of a school community expect more than just open houses and photocopied newsletters. They want frequent updates. They want to give their feedback. They expect to collaborate” (Dixon, 2012, p. 1).

Active parental involvement is what Iman Academy has been calling for, from its inception and we keep looking for ways and means to ensure that we can strengthen and build this bond. We recognize parents as the first and most important role models and educators of their children. All our Educators see themselves as co-workers with you in providing a high quality of care and education for your child.

There are many ways in which parents can take part in making the school a welcoming and stimulating place for children and parents;

  • Exchanging knowledge about their child’s needs, activities, interests and progress with the Educators;
  • Helping at sessions;
  • Sharing their own special interests with the children;
  • Helping to provide, make and look after the equipment and materials used in the children’s play activities;
  • Taking part in events and informal discussions about the activities and curriculum;
  • Joining in the community activities in which the school takes part;
  • Building friendships with other parents in the school;
  • Parents who have a particular interest or skill they feel they can share with the children are encouraged to do so by taking part in the sessions.

The use of technology to communicate through digitized student portfolios, has been a key feature in the School’s Parents as Partners Program.

Years of evidence have noted a positive link between parental involvement and student success. Teachers gain knowledge of parent and student perceptions about communication, as well as data from various e-portfolio interventions. Parents and students share their perceptions of communication and gain an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about the learning at school via the Seesaw portfolio account whilst ensuring utmost privacy.

Parents are made aware of performances and evaluations almost instantaneously!

Coffee o’ Clock

Coffee O’ Clock is an annual gathering of dads and sons / moms and daughters organized by the school in an informal setting to strengthen bonds and create a culture of companionship.

A variety of engaging activities and hands-on projects on various topics, including impromptu challenges are used to strengthen the parent- child relationship, while having loads of fun and laughter.

It is important to us that they share strong bonds and shed away barriers that restrict communication in building strong relationships with parents-students-educators.

Open Days

Open days at Iman Academy are a special time at the end of each term that is spent in strengthening bonds between parents and educators.

Open day hours are packed with information and updates that the school shares with the parent body.

It is also is an open forum where parents get to express their acknowledgments and concerns. Open days at Iman Academy are not to be missed for the simple reason that, the better the relationship between parent and educator, the best it is for the growth of the child/student.

Despite the pandemic, Iman Academy has adopted the digital platform quite well so quickly. I would like to thank the educators for implementing various online teaching methodologies and having built a strong relationship between the student and teacher virtually. The educators at Iman Academy pose many qualities like care, patience and commitment which has reflected on our child and has led to commendable improvement. I wish the school all the success.

We appreciate the virtual sessions as the educators give their maximum output for the students. They use visuals and audio which helps the child to grab the lessons quickly. The educators are well organized, punctual, kind and provide individual attention to each child. The activities provided gives them a good practice and experience. I looked for a school which provided a balanced learning environment with the Islamic etiquette, academics and extra-curricular activities. With the pandemic although I wasn’t sure how online schooling is going to work for my children who came from overseas. I am glad I chose Iman Academy, Alhamdulillah. The muallimas offered extra support to my children who were new to this system and ensured a smooth, stress free transition to the online classroom.
